| Summer of Love was sold in May 2007 to
her new owner, Nathan Her new Home Port is Portland, Oregon - Congratulations, Nathan! |
"The Morgan 24 is fast, graceful and exceptionally
well-balanced under sail" --- and oh so versatile!
We've been sailing Summer of Love
for the past 5 years on Fern Ridge Lake in Oregon and she is perfect for
this lake, which consistently has 5-15 knot afternoon winds.
You can sail or even race this boat with no loss of respect, outrunning
many similar boats. Her designer Charley
Morgan, was a competitive racer and raced in the America's Cup.
With her 2' 9" shoal draft keel you can explore the shallow edges of the
lake, head down the river or navigate rocky passes in the islands.
This boat points incredibly well into the wind with the centerboard down,
and does great with it up on downwind sails. Now if you know
anything about the Morgan 24/25 you may have heard story or two about her
notorious centerboard. We lost our centerboard in a storm
in Port Townsend bay when we first got her! How clueless is
that? We've learned quite a lot since then, having built one from
scratch and customized it so that you can easily pull it up and down from
your seat at the helm. Another thing worthy of mention is that
the fiberclass construction is thick and super-strong, which is typical
of boats of that era. Finally, we've taken Summer through
the the San Juans and the Gulf Islands three times, and she has proved
to be a comfortable and economical cruiser. We've upgraded and customized
the trailer and she can be safely trailered to anywhere that you can drive
to.
We love this boat and appreciate how she
served us well through fair weather and foul.
Summer has found a fine new home
port in fabulous Portland, Oregon with her new owner!
We wish them both and you who are reading
this Fair Winds, wherever you may sail.

From Practical Sailor:
"The long, deep board helps the 24/25
to point high, and its low-wetted surface, especially with board up, gives
extra speed on reaches and runs. The boat performs best in 5 to 15
knots but can handle much higher winds when properly reefed. The
24/25 is unusually well-balanced, and in ordinary weather can be made to
self-steer on a beat or close reach with tiller lashed. ... The Morgan
24/25 makes a wonderful small cruiser and club racer."
